This classical formula is often used as a foundation formula for phlegm damp. As a patent medicine, is often used to reinforce other products. “Two Old” refers to Citrus Chen Pi and Pinellia Ban Xia, who’s strength is increased by aging prior to use.
Lung phlegm damp conditions need to be differentiated from phlegm heat. Phlegm damp expectoration is white or clear in color, whereas phlegm heat conditions present with yellow or brown phlegm. Viscosity in either case may vary from thick to watery. Phlegm damp may be confined to the lungs or include nasal discharge. It often follows a more acute phlegm heat presentation, which converts to phlegm damp either through herbal intervention or by its own natural course. Once the phlegm has turned clear or white, it indicates that the heat phase is over. *
Function:
Transforms and dispels phlegm, dries dampness, harmonizes the stomach.
Indications:
Use for accumulation of phlegm damp in the lung. Also useful in accumulation of mucus and food matter in the stomach. Helpful in morning sickness, hangover, acid regurgitation, heartburn, vertigo, and nausea.*
